One of the key themes that will characterize Expo Milan 2015 "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is the issue of Food Security as well as Co-operation and Development on food. Closely related to this issue and cross-cutting to all the other sub-themes is the concept of Sustainable Development. This interconnection between Food Security and Sustainable Development is also stressed by the creation of a Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) within the Expo 2015 initiative, which aims at developing and promoting initiatives and projects focused on sustainability.

This meeting represents an important opportunity to discuss and debate on the role that an international event as Expo Milan 2015 - which, as defined on the website of the initiative, "aims at becoming a drivers for the local economy" - can play before, during and especially after the Exposition to address and tackle the pressing and unresolved issue of Food Insecurity through a sustainable approach to development.
